A majorly effective way to tweak your workouts for improved cardiac output and your ability to clear lactic acid.
So what is it?
Peripheral Heart Action (PHA) is created when we alternate working sets of muscular contractions between our upper and lower bodies.
This forces the body to pump blood and clear waste in an alternating upper/ lower fashion, which helps to improve the overall function of our vascular system.
Originally credited to Arthur H Steinhaus and popularized by former Mr. Universe Bob Gajda, PHA can be used in either cardio only, resistance training only, or mixed modality format. This enables you to choose from a wide variety of movements for your workouts.
This can be done using different selections of cardio equipment like our example above or you could create supersets that combine movements such as :
Push-Ups and Deadlifts
Pull-Ups and Squats
Dips and Lunges
Shoulder Press and Kettlebell Swings
