So who are you guys …?
Great question! What is Gamut Fitness? What do we stand for? What do we want you to experience at our facility? Who is this “we” I keep talking about ?!?!?! We settle in and listen up because I am about to give you the low-down.
That “We” is a combination of two gym owners (Myself and Jessy) and a large group of awesome people who come and workout with us on the regular. I’m including our membership within our “We” because there would be now gym without them. Our first paying patron is just as important and valuable as our most recent Free One on One Intro.
Next question …. What is Gamut Fitness? Let’s start with the definition of the word:
Gamut - the complete range or scope of something. Synonyms include range, spectrum, span, scope, sweep, compass, area, breadth, reach, extent, catalog, scale, variety. I bet you’re already feeling a little bit smarter eh?
We choose the name Gamut to represent what we want the gym, coaches, and workouts to represent. The entire scope of functional training. Is CrossFit awesome? Absolutely! Is Yoga amazing? You bet! Is Powerlifting cool? Damn straight. What about Bodybuilding? Of Course!
You see …. It’s not about doing only one style of workout for the rest of your days. It’s about doing what’s right for you, within the context of the many variables that affect you and your daily life. It’s about being able to see the benefits in different styles and using them to help you achieve your particular goal. There are no rules to what is functional and what is not. It all depends on YOU and where YOU are at.
Here’s an example: You want to do your first strict pull up (one of my favorites to see people achieve) but the best you can do is wiggle and flop yourself about halfway, and then the dream is over. We may suggest a supplementary program which includes assisted pull-ups and static holds, but you are also going to see some good ol’ fashioned bicep curl to help strengthen your elbow flexors (fancy term for biceps. Again … feeling smarter aren’t ya ?)
BUT WAIT !!! BICEP CURLS AREN’T FUNCTIONAL COACH !!!
If all you did every day, all day, were bicep curls (which I most certainly did being 17 at the local “24hr Fitness”) then no, that would not be serving a true functional purpose. But when used in conjunction with all other aspects of a program, the synergy created is something most people have not had the chance to experience.
Last Question: What do we want you to experience at Gamut Fitness?
It’s a pretty short answer: SUCCESS. The best part about that answer? You make the decision as to what success means to you. It could be a physical attribute like fat loss, muscle gain or better cardiovascular health. It could be a mental/spiritual pursuit like stress relief or social interaction. What matters to us as owners and coaches is that we help you identify what it is you truly want and use whatever tools we have at our disposal to show you the way to achieve it.
That’s why our tagline reads “Functional + Inclusive.”
